چکیده

Based on reanalysis data, satellite ozone concentration observations, and a Lagrangian trajectory simulation, Rossby wave breaking (RWB) event its effect stratosphere–troposphere exchange (STE) over the Tibetan Plateau in mid-March 2006 were investigated. Results showed that increased eddy heat flux from subtropical westerly jet magnified amplitude of wave, which contributed to occurrence cyclonic RWB event. The quasi-horizontal motion isentropic potential vorticity cut tropical tropospheric air mass into extratropical stratosphere, completing exchange. Meanwhile, tropopause folding zone extended polewards by 10° latitude escaped layer stratosphere through zone. particles troposphere-to-stratosphere transport (TST) pathway migrated both eastwards horizontal direction, shifted upwards vertical direction. Eventually, TST reached about 3.8 × 1014 kg, accounting for 42.2% near rest remained troposphere, where they moved rapidly along slid down downstream upper frontal

The Deep Atmospheric Boundary Layer and Its Significance to the Stratosphere and Troposphere Exchange over the Tibetan Plateau

In this study the depth of the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) over the Tibetan Plateau was measured during a regional radiosonde observation campaign in 2008 and found to be deeper than indicated by previously measurements. Results indicate that during fair weather conditions on winter days, the top of the mixed layers can be up to 5 km above the ground (9.4 km above sea level). Measurements ...

Short circuit of water vapor and polluted air to the global stratosphere by convective transport over the Tibetan Plateau.

During boreal summer, much of the water vapor and CO entering the global tropical stratosphere is transported over the Asian monsoon/Tibetan Plateau (TP) region. Studies have suggested that most of this transport is carried out either by tropical convection over the South Asian monsoon region or by extratropical convection over southern China. By using measurements from the newly available Nati...

Enhancement of Rossby Wave Breaking by Steep Potential Vorticity Gradients in the Winter Stratosphere

This work investigates the extent to which potential vorticity gradients affect the vertical propagation of planetary-scale Rossby waves on the edge of a stratospheric polar vortex and their eventual nonlinear saturation and breaking. Using two different numerical modeling approaches, it is shown that wave propagation and wave breaking are significantly reduced when the potential vorticity grad...
